BACKGROUND
Gone but Not Forgotten

Gone but not forgotten
This annual event was born out of a heartbreaking tragedy. In 2009, our community was deeply saddened and shocked at the loss of four Lakewood Police Officers: Sgt. Mark Renninger and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold and Greg Richards were gunned down in a local coffee shop. In their honor, a local community service club held the first Cops vs Teachers Charity Basketball Game as a fundraiser to raise money for the families impacted by this senseless loss.

Our 2025 Recipient
As a Clover Park School District educator, I was fortunate to work in the Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis McChord communities as a teacher and elementary school principal for more than 40 years. I truly had the best job in the world, working with some of the finest parents, students and staff! I completed my last district assignment in June 2011 as the principal of Dower Elementary School.
Unfortunately, in September 2023, I was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a fatal, progressive neurodegenerative disease and everyone who contracts it responds differently. There is no cure. The rate of contraction is projected to increase worldwide by nearly 70 percent by 2040.
Please help me raise the awareness of this terrible disease and support finding of a cure. Again, thank all of you for your overwhelming generosity and support of me and my family.
Let’s find a cure for ALS!
Sincerely,
Tom Prentice
